What an idea check delivers

Closest prior art

Direct overlap in problem formulation, methodology, and evaluation.

Adversarial objections

The strongest counterarguments, theoretical bottlenecks, and confounders.

Word-for-word quotes

Every claim verified against retrieved full text. Ungrounded points dropped.

Clear verdict

Actionable assessment: Promising, Needs modification, or Already explored.

Pivot directions

Concrete architectural and algorithmic changes to establish true novelty.

Experiment plan

Recommended baselines, benchmark datasets, and falsification criteria.

How an idea check works

  1. 1

    Formulate hypothesis

Translate your research prompt into testable variables and assumptions.

  2. 2

    Scholarly graph search

Traverse open scholarly repositories, follow citation graphs, and ingest full text.

  3. 3

    Pressure-test claims

Run adversarial audits against published baselines and theoretical limits.

  4. 4

    Evidence synthesis

Produce a structured report with quotes, prior art overlap, and experiment steps.

Who it is for

  • PhD researchers choosing or refining dissertation directions
  • Grant applicants confirming prior art before proposal submission
  • Lab supervisors sanity-checking preliminary student proposals
  • R&D teams evaluating exploratory algorithmic hypotheses

Scientific integrity boundaries

  • —Provides transparent evidence to help you judge novelty; not a mathematical guarantee.
  • —Relies on verified peer-reviewed abstracts when full text is behind paywalls.
  • —Zero model training; your ideas and manuscripts remain private to your account.

Questions

How does NoveltyAxis determine novelty?

It maps your hypothesis against 200M+ papers across arXiv, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, and Crossref, scoring overlap in problem, method, and empirical evaluation, and surfacing competing baselines.

Can it hallucinate or fabricate citations?

No. Every cited passage is verified word-for-word against retrieved full-text documents. Any assertion that cannot be verified in published text is eliminated.

Which scholarly databases are searched?

arXiv, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar and Crossref. Between them they cover computer science, physics, biology, medicine, economics and the social sciences.

Are my unpublished ideas kept private?

Yes. All submissions are encrypted in transit and at rest, visible only to your authenticated account, and never used to train language models.

How much does an idea check cost?

The free plan includes 3 runs a month, with up to 2 in your first week. Reference checks are free on every plan, up to 50 a month.
